PHILIP LAWRENCE
“I want to be a new Russell T Davies.”
I had ALWAYS written stories and I had ALWAYS watched too much telly. I knew in my heart the two would come together but growing up in a working class area of South London, where anyone with any aptitude was pushed into banking, it took me DECADES to believe that I could.

As a professional screenwriter, I cut my teeth on two of the most demanding shows in the UK: EastEnders and Casualty proving myself to be resilient, reliable and good to work with.

I’ve always written with heart, humour and hope. My work usually digs into genuine emotions, often exploring themes of grief and identity: people who for whatever reason can’t be their true selves. I like to mine close family dynamics, particularly between dysfunctional siblings and even my most dramatic and serious scripts still have a twinkle and a wit.
